Twinning work on Highway 63 has now stopped until July 15 to help protect caribou populations during the calving season.
The twinning area is within a caribou protection zone that stretches from just north of Wandering River north to House River. No construction activity is permitted within these zones from March 1 to July 15.
“Part of responsible development is to ensure that we’re able to protect wildlife and in this case it’s threatened caribou populations,” Alberta Transportation spokeswoman Heather Kaszuba explained yesterday.
