Regional Emergency Services has donated three retired pumper trucks to the country of Nicaragua, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

The three fire trucks have been used in the hamlets of Fort MacKay, Anzac and Conklin since 1995. The trucks were recently retired when new trucks arrived in the Municipality. The donation of the pumpers is part of the Operation Nicaragua program, which is run by a group of firefighters from Kamloops, British Columbia.

The keys to the pumper trucks were officially passed to the Operation Nicaragua team during a ceremony at Hawkins Hall this afternoon, featuring Mayor Melissa Blake and Regional Fire Chief Brian Makey.
