Mayor Blake to light up Wood Buffalo for the holiday season

Mayor Melissa Blake will signal the start of the holiday season with an official tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, November 28, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo announced today.

The tree lighting ceremony will take place at the Poplar Crescent Park in downtown Fort McMurray. There will be caroling by the Aurora Youth Choir as well as complimentary hot chocolate for residents beginning at 6:00 p.m.

In addition to the ceremony, Mayor Blake will showcase the new outdoor community skating rink at the Poplar Crescent Park. The rink will be maintained until January 4, 2010 for residents and their families to enjoy a skate during the holidays surrounded by holiday lights.

The tree lighting ceremony will be followed by the Evening Santa Claus Parade. The parade kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Riedel Street and the floats will make their way down Franklin Avenue to Morrison Street.
